Quickspin has been robbing the same train since 2017 and somehow it never gets old. Sticky Bandits is the Stockholm studio’s six-gun saga — six games in eight years, numbered and subtitled like film sequels, each one built around outlaws who stick to the reels. Ceilings have climbed as high as 30,000x along the way, and unusually for a long-running family, every entry publishes a default RTP the right side of 96%. If you’re hunting for slots like Sticky Bandits, here’s the whole gang, lined up in order.

Every Sticky Bandits game, reviewed

1. Sticky Bandits (the original)

The 2017 original opens on a moving train and one big idea: bandits as colossal wilds that sprawl across the reels and stay put. Land the locomotive bonus symbol on reel one with a massive wild in view and the free spins begin — wilds sticking through the round, wins compounding as more outlaws board. At 96.58% published over 30 lines it remains the family’s most generous default nearly a decade on, and its spaghetti-western swagger set the tone every sequel still follows.

2. Sticky Bandits: Wild Return

The 2019 sequel widens the board to 5×4 and forty lines, promotes the bandits to 3×3 massive symbols, and adds the series’ oddest treasure: the Quick Slot, a miniature one-armed bandit that fires up when its symbol lands on reel five and can pay 500x in a single pull. The Lucky Shot free spins riff on the sticky theme — every bandit that lands fires a shot that turns another symbol wild. Published at 96.22%, it’s the playful one of the six.

3. Sticky Bandits 3: Most Wanted

The 2021 threequel swaps the boys for five cowgirl outlaws and strips the maths to a deliberately simple nine-line game — Quickspin’s producer called it a model “aimed at players who like exciting and straight-forward gameplay”. Simple doesn’t mean small: the free spins run twelve deep at a 2x multiplier with the cowgirls locking as sticky wilds, a line of five top-payers is worth 2,500x, and total exposure reaches 22,000x. The 60x bonus buy was the family’s first.

4. Sticky Bandits: Trail of Blood

2022’s fourth chapter is the saga gone grim — blood-streaked reels, golden sheriff badges and a revenge-western tone closer to a Peckinpah picture than the cartoon capers before it. Underneath the theatre it keeps the family religion: sticky wilds, stacked badge payouts and a 96.23% default (with reduced operator versions in circulation — this was the entry where “good and bad builds” chatter around the series began in earnest).

Trail of Blood: a full posse of golden badges — the dark chapter's money moment.

5. Sticky Bandits Unchained

January 2024’s entry is the volatility peak: a compact 5×3, ten-line board hiding a 30,000x cap — among the biggest ceilings in mainstream slots. Three or more wilds fuse into sticky 2×2 colossals; four summon the Peacemaker, a revolver-cylinder bonus loading multiplier chambers worth up to 500x a pop; five load it fully. Default RTP is 96.09% at a 34.5% hit rate, but note the version menu runs 94%, 90% and 87% — check before you draw. Bonus buys start at 80x.

6. Sticky Bandits Thunder Rail

May 2025’s sixth robbery is the most mechanically ambitious: a 5×4 board whose 26 lines expand to 53 as rows and columns grow, eight distinct wild characters (tall, diagonal, big, random, multiplier, cash, row- and column-expanders — a ninth, Mystery Wilds, rides with the Extra Bet), and a Train Heist bonus on a 7×7 grid where Grabbers, Doublers, Boosters and Re-Activators loot a multiplier-collect carriage. 10,000x potential; 96.07% default with 94/92/84 operator builds in the wild.

Close cousins outside the family

The obvious shootout is with Money Train — Relax Gaming’s outlaw dynasty chases the same western-heist fantasy with even wilder maths, and comparing the two families is half the fun of the genre. Hacksaw’s Wanted Dead or a Wild completes the posse for most players, and if you just want the sticky-wild mechanic without the gunsmoke, Immortal Romance’s Wild Desire is its gothic ancestor.

The maths: outlaws with honest books

Line the defaults up and the family is remarkably consistent — expected cost of £1 × 100 spins at each game’s published figure:

GameHouse edge£1 × 100 spins
Sticky Bandits (96.58%)3.42%£3.42
Trail of Blood (96.23%)3.77%£3.77

Thunder Rail (96.07%)3.93%£3.93

The caveat rides in the version menus: recent entries ship operator-selectable builds down to 87% (Unchained) and 84% (Thunder Rail), where the same hundred spins cost £13–£16. History and legacy

Quickspin was founded in Stockholm in 2011 by NetEnt alumni and bought by Playtech in 2016 — a boutique studio with a big-publisher engine behind it. Sticky Bandits arrived the following summer and quietly became its signature: the colossal-wild western that proved a mid-size studio could run a franchise. The sequels landed like clockwork — 2019, 2021, 2022, 2024, 2025 — each one re-answering the same design question (how do wilds stick?) with a different mechanic: shots, cowgirl locks, revolver chambers, expanding rails. Almost uniquely among the families on this site, the numbering is honest — there really is a Sticky Bandits 3, and the saga reads in order.

Why this family still matters

It’s the proof that sequels don’t have to mean shrinkflation. Where most franchises fund each new edition out of the RTP, six Sticky Bandits games have held a 96%+ default line across eight years while the ceilings grew from pub-modest to 30,000x. If you want to show someone what a well-run slot series looks like, you point here.

Beyond the reels

The bandits are Quickspin’s house mascots — they front the studio’s stands at industry shows and its promotional tournaments, and the series is a fixture of streamer bonus-buy compilations thanks to Unchained’s Peacemaker and Thunder Rail’s heist. The franchise’s wider cultural footprint is the genre itself: alongside Money Train and Wanted Dead or a Wild, it turned the train robbery into one of online slots’ three or four defining fantasies.

What players say

Affection for this family is unusually uncomplicated. The original still gets recommended as a first “proper” high-volatility slot; Unchained owns the highlight reels — its 30,000x cap and revolver bonus made it the series’ streamer darling; and Thunder Rail’s eight wilds are praised as genuinely fresh rather than feature soup. The one recurring grumble is the modern version menus — players who loved the 96% defaults resent hunting for them — and Trail of Blood’s grimness divides the room: some call it the best-looking entry, others miss the humour.

The biggest Sticky Bandits wins

Unchained’s 30,000x cap is the family’s tallest tale, with 3: Most Wanted’s 22,000x and Thunder Rail’s 10,000x behind it — but the clips players share are usually simpler: a colossal bandit parking on the middle reels while free spins do the rest. Here’s a recorded session of exactly that:

Rather than reviewing Sticky Bandits in isolation, it's worth lining it up against Action Bank, Vikings Go and Squid Game, three series with genuinely different personalities — good to know if Colossal bandit wilds isn't the specific pull for you.

Our verdict on Sticky Bandits Unchained

Sister Slots score: 8/10 — we’re scoring Unchained, the entry where the family’s ambition peaks.

Features8/10 — the Peacemaker is the series’ best single idea since the colossal wilds
Win potential9/10 — 30,000x from a ten-line board
Design7/10 — classic western done crisply, if safely
Playability7/10 — 96.09% default is fair for the ceiling; just dodge the 87% build

Saddle up if you want franchise polish with a genuinely dangerous ceiling. Stay in town if five-out-of-five volatility ruins your evenings — the original robs more gently.
